The work support 21 in a blindstitch sewing machine is pivoted at 22 to the frame 11 and is biased by a spring 25 towards a fixed throat plate 15, a movable stop member 33 by abutting the work support determines the position of the latter, and a control member, operatively connected with the stop member and the frame, is adapted to be moved bodily and also to be varied in length, for effecting coarse and fine adjustment, respectively, of the position of the stop member. The latter is provided on a lever 32 which is also pivoted at 22 and has an extension 34 formed with a notch 35 embracing a pin 36 which is carried by a stud 37 screwed into the lower end of a control rod 38 slidably and rotatably journalled in the frame. Rod 38 is formed with a series of circumferential teeth 41 constituting a rack which is engaged by a gear quadrant 42. A lever 45, connected by a shaft 43 to gear 42, carries a screwed stud 50 which passes through an arcuate slot 49 in a fixed plate 46 and receives a handle 51, whereby lever 45 may be swung to move rod 38 axially for effecting coarse adjustment of stop 33. When handle 51 is screwed inwardly to clamp lever 45 against plate 46 for fixing rod 38 axially, a hand-wheel 52 at the upper end of the latter may serve to rotate rod 38 to move stud 37 axially for effecting fine adjustment of stop 33.
