Abstract
Thermoplastic materials, e.g. polymers of butadiene, vinyl acetate, styrene, acrylonitrile, acrylates, methacrylates, vinyl chloride and vinylidene chloride and epoxy resins, are expanded using blowing agents comprising 5-amino-1,2,3,4-thiatriazoles of the form: <FORM:0801825/IV (a)/1> where R is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon group, e.g. methyl, ethyl and allyl. The aminothiatriazole may be mixed with the thermoplastic material in the form of a powder or as a dispersion or solution, e.g. in glycol, optionally together with accelerators, fillers, plasticizers and other blowing agents, e.g. thiosemicarbazide, and the mixture heated, if desired under pressure, to decompose the aminothiatriazole.ALSO:Expandable compositions comprise rubber and 5-amino-1,2,3,4,-thiatriazoles of the form: <FORM:0801825/V/1> where R is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon group, e.g., methyl, ethyl or allyl. The aminothiatriazole may be mixed with the rubber in the form of a powder or as a dispersion or solution, e.g., in glycol, optionally together with accelerators, fillers, plasticisers and other blowing agents, e.g., thiosemicarbazide, and the mixture heated, if desired under pressure, to decompose the aminothiatriazole.
