Class 103(6) A spring support for a railway bogie bolster 7, Figs. 1 and 3, disposed at one side of cross member (transom) 6 is characterized in that a substantially horizontal anchor rod 9 near each end of the bolster connects the latter to the member 6 for rising and falling movement of the bolster relatively to the member 6 and transversely of the bogie and that a pair of springs 8 of rubber-like material, one beside each rod 9, extend between the bolster and the member 6 and are held under compression between the bolster and the member 6 by the anchor rods 9. The channel-shaped bolster 7, having a central pivot 11 to receive a kingpin 26, is disposed between a pair of transoms 6 and side frame members 5 of the bogie. At each end, the bolster 7 is provided with an inclined plate 15 and between the plates 15 and blocks 16, Fig. 3, carried by the transoms, are disposed the spring 8 formed of rubber units 20 bonded or otherwise united to metal interleaves 21. A pair of anchor rods 9 is provided at each end of the bolster 7 and the rods pass through clearance openings 27 in the bolster and transoms and are connected at their ends by cross-heads 22 secured by nuts 12. Each cross-head has a part-spherical male head 23 to engage, with interpositioning of a layer of rubber or like material 25, in an associated plug 24 having a part-spherical female surface. One plug is connected to one transom 6 whilst the other plug is connected to the bolster 7. The stiffness of the springs 8 may be adjusted by the nuts 12. If desired only one anchor rod may be provided at each end of the bolster together with a vertically offset rod centrally of the bolster, or a pair at one end and a single rod at the other. Moreover, a pair of rods may be provided at each end of the bolster and each separately connected thereto by a universal joint. Furthermore, the rods and/or springs may be outside the side frames 5 in which case the ends of the bolster 7 would extend through openings in those frames. Specification 716,563 is referred to.
