Abstract
801,332. Vehicle driving gear. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Sept. 11, 1956 [Sept. 14, 1955], No. 27784/56. Addition to 756,904 [Group XXXIV]. Class 79(2) [Also in Group XXXIV] In a tractor where the brakes may be used for steering purposes, the friction brakes 10 and 12, located at the right and left-hand side of jackshaft 14, are operated by pedals 16 and 18 which are independently operable through linkages 20, 22. Connected to the jackshaft 14 are differential pinion gears 26 carried on the ends of axle shafts 28; the latter also carrying tractor wheels 30 and 32. By operating one or the other of pedals 16 or 18 to brake the appropriate wheel, the tractor may be steered. The location of the brakes at the jackshaft of the tractor enables a lower order of torque loads to be exerted by the brake and makes it possible to raise the level of the axle shaft to increase the height between the undercarriage of the tractor and the ground, thus preventing damage to crops. Specifications 761,076 and 776,744 [both in Group XXXIV] are referred to.
