801,227. Measuring ozone concentration photo-electrically. BRITISH OXYGEN CO., Ltd. Dec. 5, 1956 [Dec. 20,1955], No. 36525/55. Class 40 (3). The concentration of ozone when mixed with colourless gas is measured by passing light through it, filtering wavelengths 5400 to 6400Š on to a photovoltaic cell and measuring the difference between its output and that of the cell subjected to light from a source which fluctuates with the other source. Light from a source 11 is passed through the glass tubes 14, 17 (the outside walls of which are silvered) filters 18, 19 and on to the cells 12, 13. These cells are connected in opposition to a galvanometer which has a variable resistance across it so that its sensitivity may be controlled. In operation, the tube 14 is filled with a colourless gas and the galvanometer needle set to zero by operation of the attenuator 20. The ozone is then introduced into the tube 14 and the deflection of the galvanometer is an indication of its concentration.
