Abstract

800,453. Lifting devices for engagement by fork trucks. AMERICAN CYANAMID CO. Dec. 23, 1954 [Dec. 24, 1953], No. 37164/54. Addition to 786,963. Class 78 (4). The sling of the parent Specification is used to carry a stack of packages narrower than the sling to form a unit for engagement by the forks of a lift truck in which the forks can swing inwardly against the sides of the stacked packages when the sling and packages are lifted by the truck. The sling comprises a sheet of paper, burlap, resin-impregnated cloth or other material folded as shown and glued or stapled at 5, Fig. 1, not shown, to form loops 3, 4 for engagement by the forks of the truck. Temporary or permanent liners which may be circular metal tubes or may be of triangular or rectangular section, may be inserted in the loops 3, 4. The web may be reinforced by strips of material or by wires or cords, by double folds formed in the sheet, or by folding over the edges of the sheet. The loops may be formed by folding over and gluing the ends of the sheet to either the upper or the lower surface of the web.
