Abstract

800,066. Automatic voltage control systems. COLLINS RADIO CO. Dec. 6, 1956, No. 37351/56. Class 38 (4). In an A.C. voltage stabilizer an amplified version of the output voltage is fed back to boost the input and the gain of the amplifier is varied in accordance with the difference between the peak value of the output voltage and a preset level. The input transformer 10 is coupled to the output transformer 13 by a booster transformer 17. A portion of the output is tapped off a potential divider 23, 24 and is amplified by a variablemu pentode 51 and power amplifier 57 to enertize the booster transformer 17. The output is also applied to a diode 66 which is biased to a preset level by a stabilizer tube 34 and potentiometer 37 so as to conduct only when the positive-going peak amplitude of the output exceeds the bias. The resulting pulses are amplified (and reversed in phase) by a pentode 68 and the peak amplitude of the pulses is detected by a diode 73 having a load 55, 77 with a long time-constant. This peak amplitude signal provides a negative bias to control the gain of the variable-mu amplifier 51 so as to maintain the peak amplitude of the output of transformer 13 constant at a level determined by the potentiometer 37.
