799,892. Automatic speed control systems. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Jan. 17, 1955 [Jan. 25, 1954], No. 1363/.55. Class 38 (4). To maintain constant the speed of a D.C. motor the armature of which is supplied through a thyratron 14 from an A.C. source L<SP>1</SP>, L2, the armature voltage is applied to the grid-cathode circuit of thyratron 14 in opposition to the direct voltage output of a potentiometer 16 the setting of which determines motor speed. A direct voltage developed across a resistor 40 by a rectifier 50 opposes the voltage from potentiometer 16 so that a reference voltage of either polarity may be set up by the adjustment of potentiometer 16. A phase-shifted alternating voltage from a potentiometer 42, connected to the centre tap of a supply transformer winding 24, is also included in the grid-cathode circuit of thyratron 14 to enable the effective amplification of the system to be varied. A resistance-inductance network 34 serves to improve the form factor of the armature current. Acceleration of the motor is controlled by the time constant of a resistance-capacity network 34, 72 through which the voltage from potentiometer 16 builds up after the motor has been started by the energization of a relay 18.
