799,532. Differential gearing. PETROVITCH, M. Nov. 28, 1955 [Nov. 26, 1954; April 15, 1955], No. 34058/55. Class 80 (2). In a transmission for an endless track vehicle, the engine drives through a clutch and a differential gear to the first gears of a pair of epicyclic trains, the second gears of the epicyclic trains are interconnected for rotation together, and the carriers of the planets meshing with the first and second gears are connected to the vehicle driving wheels, braking means can be applied to the first gears to cause the vehicle to turn about a vertical axis. An engine 1 drives gears 2, 3 through clutches 4, 5, the gears 2, 3 respectively driving the input shafts 7, 30 of a change speed gear 8 and a differential 26. The output shafts 25l, 25r of the differential carry sun gears 16l, 16r of epicyclic trains 13l, 13r, the annuli of which 19l, 19r are connected by gears 15l, 15r on a shaft 12 driven through gears 14, 10 from the output of the change speed gear 8. The planet carriers 18l, 18r of the epicyclic trains are connected by gears 211, 21r 221, 22r to the vehicle driving wheels 24l, 24r. The sun gears 16l, 16r are connected to brakes 33l, 33r. For forward or reverse running in a straight line, both clutches 4 and 5 are engaged; for turning in a curve clutches 4 and 5 are engaged and one brake 33l or 33r is applied; for turning about the axis of the vehicle clutch 5 only is engaged together with one brake 33l or 33r which results in the torque being divided between the wheels 24l, 24r in opposite senses. In other embodiments the change speed gear 8 is of the sliding gear or constant mesh type, and the engine is mounted longitudinally of the vehicle.
