799,487. Inflatable devices for gripping articles. HOLLANDER, L. P., and SCHROTH. R. A. Oct. 1, 1956, No. 29887/56. Class 78 (4), An endless, or substantially endless, tube 12 (Fig. 2) mounted in a substantially endless channel member 11 can be inflated to grip an article to be lifted. In the device illustrated for lifting green grindstones, a closed frame 11 of channel section is supported by lugs 17 (Fig. 1) from the legs 31 of a sling. A pressure regulator 37 supplying pressure fluid through a flexible conduit 16 to the tube 12 is carried by telescoping arms 34, 35 which are apertured to receive the legs 31 of the sling and which rest on buttons 33 on the legs. The conduit 16 is connected to the tube 12 through a coupling 15 (Fig. 2) such that the outlet from the tube 12 is automatically closed when the coupling is broken so that the article lifted cannot be inadvertently released by operating the release valve 41 (Fig. 1) of the pressure regulator. A similar coupling 42 connects the pressure regulator to a pressure line 43. The tube 12 has a flared skirt 23 ending in a reinforcing bead 25 to facilitate engagement with the grindstone to be lifted.
