Abstract

Liquid compositions comprise a substantially stable liquid organo-polysiloxane, in which the organic radicals are monovalent hydrocarbon or halogenated hydrocarbon radicals, and from 1 to 5 per cent by weight of the siloxane of a borane of the formula BR3 in which each R is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical, preferably containing from 3 to 18 carbon atoms. The siloxanes specified contain saturated or unsaturated aliphatic, aromatic or halogenated aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radicals, and the boranes contain saturated or unsaturated aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radicals. In examples: (1) a liquid copolymer of dimethyl- and trimethyl-siloxanes was mixed with tris - n - amyl -, tris - n - butyl -, tris - (1-methylbutyl) -, tris - t - amyl - or tris - t - butylborane; (2) tris-n-butyl borane was mixed with liquid ethylmethyl-, vinylmethyl- or phenylmethyl-siloxane, or a copolymer of a ,a ,a - trifluorotolyl - and dimethyl - siloxanes, mono - octadecyl - dimethyl - and trimethylsiloxanes, chlorotrifluorocyclobutyl - methyland dimethyl - siloxanes, or 2 : 4 - dichlorophenyl - dimethyl - and dimethyl - siloxanes; (3) a trimethylsilyl end blocked dimethylpolysiloxane was mixed with ethinyldibutyl-, tristolyl-, tris-alkyl, dicyclohexylmethyl-, octandecyldiethyl- or tris-benzyl-borane. Uses.-As transformer fluids, hydraulic fluids, blanking media for aqueous systems, dielectric fluids, greases, and in analytical procedures for determining the oxygen content of gases.
