Abstract

Coke deposition in petroleum cracking furnaces is decreased by adding 0.1 to 100 parts per million of a polymethyl siloxane to the petroleum prior to heating in the cracking furnace. The siloxane is added either as a liquid or solution. The substituents of the siloxane may be either all methyl, or methyl and hydrogen or hydrocarbon radicals.
