Abstract
In the production of a resin from a steam-cracked petroleum distillate by polymerization in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts type catalyst, the resin product is washed with a mixture of an alcohol, preferably isopropyl alcohol, and aqueous ammonia to remove the catalyst. Catalysts specified are aluminium chloride, aluminium bromide, boron trifluoride and titanium and zirconium tetrachlorides. The purification may be effected continuously.
