799,157. Combined disc and drum brakes. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Aug. 28, 1956 [Sept. 14, 1955], No. 26268/56. Class 103 (1). In a combined disc and drum brake of the kind in which composite braking devices are used such that by axial movement apart of friction elements 24 to engage the inner radial sides of drum or rotor 42, the rotation thereof produces radial movement of shoe member 26 about anchor posts 18 to engage arcuate lining segments 56 with the axial surface of the rotor, the shoes 26 have curved pivot ends 62 on their webs, which slidably engage hardened anchorplates 66. Such free floating movement enables any preferred wedging angle for the anchor to be used, thus making it possible to select the desired anchor ratio for the arcuate shoes. The friction elements 24 are spread apart by fluid pressure-operated pistons 36 in cylinders 24 but hand-actuated means, as shown particularly in Fig. 2, comprises articulated levers 108 operated by a cable and operative on additional frictional elements 104 and 106.
