Abstract
799,143. Refrigerating. SPALDING, D. B. Feb. 27, 1956 [March 9, 1955], No. 6910/55. Class 29 [Also in Group XXVIII] In a pressure exchanger, medium pressure fluid entering a cell ring 1 is compressed and extracted at a higher pressure by a duct 3; fluid remaining in the cell is expanded and extracted at a pressure lower than the medium pressure by a duct 4. The temperature of the fluid in the ducts 3, 4 will be respectively hotter and colder than the medium pressure fluid entering the duct 2. The cooling effect of the low pressure outlet may be used to cool an aircraft. Referring to Fig. 7, an open ended cell ring 20 is fed by a duct 21 with ram air. The end plate at the opposite end has alternate high and low pressure ducts 22, 23 which are connected to ducts 22, 23 in the end plate of a further cell ring 25 the opposite end of which is open to atmosphere at 26. The fluid flowing between the ducts 23 flows through cooling coils 24.
