Abstract

856,499. Gas cooling installations. CHEMIEBAU DR. A. ZIEREN G.m.b.H. Jan. 29, 1959 [Feb. 8, 1958], No. 3286/59. Class 64(3) Gas is cooled in a first heat exchanger having a casing 1 through which flows a cooling medium and is then cooled further in a closely adjacent heat exchanger having a casing 2 through which flows cooling air afterwards discharged to atmosphere. The heat exchanger casings 1, 2 are arranged end to end and overlap with clearance at their adjacent ends and at this end, the casing 2 has no confining wall whereby some of the cooling air is permitted to escape through the clearance between the end plate 12 of casing 1 and the flanged end 10 of casing 2. A duct 11 carrying the gas to be cooled may extend continuously through both heat exchangers (Fig. 2) or a header for this gas may be provided between the heat exchangers (Fig. 3).
