Abstract
799,101. Washing gases. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE BLAW-KNOX. May 9, 1956 [May 24, 1955], No. 14434/56. Class 55 (2). In an apparatus wherein dust is removed from a gas by bringing the gas into intimate contact with a liquid, such as oil, the oilladen gas is delivered to a chamber in which the oil is separated centrifugally from the gas. As shown, dust-laden gas is admitted at 8 to a chamber 4, defined by a partition 2, the gas forcing its way through oil, the level of which is shown at 7, to the lower ends of tubes 9 leading to an expansion chamber 5 lying between an upper partition 3 and the partition 2. Oil, separated by the expansion, from the gas, returns to the oil reservoir through drain passages 10, whilst the gas passes to the separating chamber 6 through openings 12 in the partition 3, the gas being directed by vertical and horizontal plates 13, 14 to enter the chamber 6 tangentially and thus to deposit oil on the sides of the chamber. Oil is returned to the reservoir through pipes 18. An inclined baffle 16 projects from each plate 13 and serves to direct oil-droplets towards the partition 3, the oil being prevented from running back into the openings 12 by ledges 17. The gas passes to a final separator 19, oil from which is teturned to the reservoir by pipes 21 concentric with the pipes 18.
