Abstract
798,575. Shearing. SCHLOEMANN AKT.- GES. Jan. 26, 1956 [March 17, 1955], No. 2585/56. Class 83 (4). Flying shears for cutting moving work has a main drive rotating at a speed corresponding to the speed of the work and an auxiliary drive of variable speed for controlling the speed between cutting operations to vary the length of cut, both drives being connected alternately through friction clutches. A shears with a fixed lower knife 1, Fig. 1, on a pivoted carrier 3 has an upper knife carrier 5 which is vertically slidable on guide bars 6 attached to the pivoted carrier 3 and actuated by a crank-arm 10 on a shaft 8 which is driven through a pinion 11a from a shaft 13 and pinion 12. The main drive comprises a motor 16 and magnetic clutch disc 15 which drives a clutch plate 14 keyed on the shaft 13. The auxiliary drive comprises a variable speed motor 23 and magnetic clutch disc 22 which drives a second clutch plate 21 keyed on a shaft 19. A connection between the shafts 19 and 13 is provided by a pinion 20 fixed on the shaft 19 and driving a unitary pinion 18 and magnetic clutch disc 17 which is engageable by the clutch plate 14, when disconnected from the main drive clutch plate 15. For cutting work of longer lengths a slowly rotatable drive for bringing the shears to the correct starting position is provided by a motor 30, clutch 28 and worm and worm-wheel drive 25, 26. The worm-wheel 25 slowly rotates a magnetic clutch disc 24 which is normally freely rotatable on the shaft 19 but may drive the shaft through the clutch plate 21 when disconnected from the auxiliary drive clutch plate 22. In a modification (not shown), a pair of main drives engage on each side of the shears pinion 11a and a single auxiliary drive is coupled through pinions to both drives. Specifications 718,477, 731,086, [Group XXIV], and 736,599 are referred to.
