Abstract
736,599. Shearing. LOEWY ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Oct. 12, 1953 [Sept. 5, 1952], No. 22338/52. Class 83 (4). In a shearing machine in which rotary shears are stopped after each cut, a main motor which drives the shears during cutting and a pilot motor which returns the shears to their starting position are connected to the shears through clutches operative alternatively. Operation of a flag switch 21 by the stock energizes an electromagnet 5 which clutches a disc 6 so that the normally running main motor 1 drives the shears 8 through the cutting position.. A rotary limit switch 18 de-energizes the electromagnet 5 and energizes an electromagnet 15 which clutches the disc 6, whereupon the shears are slowed by a brake 17. After they have passed the starting position, a limit switch 19 energizes the pilot motor 11 which slowly reverses the shears 8 to the starting position where a switch 20 operates the brake 17 and de-energizes the electromagnet 15.. After a predetermined time the electromagnet 5 is again operated and the cycle repeated. In a modification the switch 19 becomes operative before the shears reach the starting position and the pilot motor 11 drives them slowly forwards to this position.
