Abstract

731,086. Clutches. SCHLOEMANN AKT.- GES. Oct. 17, 1952, No. 26135/52. Class 80 (2). A double-acting electromagnetic clutch, for driving shears in machines through which material is passed to be cut into specified lengths, comprises a driven disc 13, either engaged by an electromagnet 12 driven by a continuously rotating motor 10, or alternatively engaged by an electromagnet 11 which can be driven through a worm by a motor 17, the arrangement being such that as soon as the electromagnet 12 has been switched off, the electromagnet 11 energized and the disc 13 brought to rest by the braking action of the latter electromagnet, the motor 17 is automatically switched on to drive the machine in the opposite direction and return the shears to their initial position. The clutch drives a worm 9 meshing worm gears 7, 8 on shafts 5, 6 carrying cranks 1, 2 on which are mounted knives 3, 4, the backward rotation of the knives being halted by a stop 18. An additional electromagnetic clutch can be inserted in the drive for the electromagnet 11, so that the armature of the motor 17 can rotate continuously.
