Abstract
1443080 Scoring KOPPERS CO Inc 13 March 1974 [29 Oct 1973] 11286/74 Addition to 1442800 Heading B6J [Also in Division B4] A rotary die-cutter for cutting and scoring a carton blank 40 comprises a die cylinder 16, an anvil cylinder 18, driving means, e.g. an electric motor 56, for rotating the die cylinder at a selected speed, a first mechanical transmission 70 whose input is operatively connected to the die cylinder and output to the anvil cylinder for rotating the anvil cylinder at a speed corresponding to the speed of rotation of the die cylinder and a second variable mechanical transmission 90 whose input is connected to the die cylinder and whose output is connected to the output of the first mechanical transmission for varying the speed of rotation of the anvil cylinder between limits from the said corresponding speed. The rotary die-cutter described in the present Specification is similar to that described in the Specification 1,442,800 except that instead of the shaft 130, Fig. 3, being connected to a variable-speed electric motor 126 controlled by a tachometer T1 as in the latter Specification, the shaft is connected to the output of a second mechanical variable-speed transmission 90, the input of the transmission 90 being connected via a shaft 55 and gears 51, 53 to the die cylinder. In order to vary the speed of the anvil cylinder relative to the die cylinder, the transmission 90 can be manually adjusted by means of a hand wheel 57. In a modification, the drive is taken from gear 52, Fig. 3, to the gear 76 on the anvil cylinder via a further gear 50b and an electromagnetic slip clutch 63 such that the anvil cylinder will slip in the event of an overload.
