Abstract

798,560. Sifting apparatus. RUZICKA, J. Nov. 2, 1955 [Nov. 9, 1954; May 31, 1955], No. 31350/55. Class 117 [Also in Group XXIV] A balanced vibratory system comprises three or more aligned masses such as three sifting screens 7, 1, 8, only one of which, such as the central screen 1, is directly oscillated by driving means, the remaining screens being oscillated through resilient elements 9 which interconnect adjacent screens and have stiffnesses such that the amplitudes of adjacent screens are of opposite sense. As shown, each screen is supported by bars 6 and the screen 1 is connected by bars 2 to a motor-driven crankshaft 3 which may be resiliently supported. The screens 7, 8 may in some cases be connected by links 12. Equations are given interrelating the masses, amplitudes and spacings of the screens, the stiffnesses of the elements 9, and the vibration frequency. The system is operated above the critical frequency of screens 7 and 8, and dampers may be provided to restrict the oscillations when passing through the critical frequency. Alternatively the crank shaft 3 may be brought to full speed at zero or small eccentricity and be subsequently adjusted to the required amplitude. The bars 6 may be associated with torsion links. Alternatively the screens may be suspended. The aligned masses or screens may be arranged in a horizontal, vertical or inclined position and may comprise a vibrating conveyer.
