Abstract
798,557. Electric tests. BRITISH CENTRAL ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd., and KRIMHOLTZ, J. Oct. 25, 1956 [July 25, 1955], No. 21512/55. Class 37. In known apparatus for testing the earth connection on electrical appliances, the secondary of a loosely coupled transformer 16 is coupled through an ammeter 20 to the socket 21 for receiving the earth pin of the apparatus and, through a clip 23, to the frame of the apparatus. Thus, if the earth connection is correct, ammeter 20 indicates a heavy current and lamp 24 is extinguished. The present invention provides for a series of tappings on the transformer primary, any one of which may be selected by a switch 17 carrying a disc which indicates the voltage being used. Ammeter 20 is then calibrated directly in resistance units to indicate the resistance of the earth connection. The ammeter, voltmeter, lamp and three-pin socket for connection to the apparatus to be tested may all be mounted on the panel of a cabinet inside which are the transformer and switches. The clip and its cable are housed in a lockable compartment at the rear of the cabinet. Specification 543,660 is referred to.
