Class 65(1) [Also in Group VIII] A rotatable cylindrical drum 10 for a washing or like machine is provided with a door comprising a first panel 14 hinged to the drum at 16 and a second panel 15 hinged to the first panel at 17, guiding means for the panel 15 including a projecting follower 35a carried adjacent the free edge thereof, and an inwardly extending track 36 upon which the follower rides during the door movement, and retaining means at the inner end of the track 36 including a moveable latch member 40 biased to snap behind the follower 35a and prevent return movement thereof when the follower arrives at door-open position. The latch member 40 is pivoted at 41 and normally bridges a recess in the track 36 under the influence of a spring 42. A hooked finger 43 ensures retention of the follower 35a if the drum 10 moves'from the Fig. 2 position. The door is held in closed position by spring-biased snap-action latch members 26 adapted to engage over the side edges of the opening 12 in the cylinder. The bottom edge of the panel 15 is rolled over a rod 35 and is adapted to be received in a longitudinally extending pocket member 21. The rod 35 extends outwardly beyond the door edges to provide a follower 35a -at each end. The guide track 36 has a reversed curvature portion 36a which is substantially concentric with the hinge axis 16 to facilitate door movement. The drum 10 is provided with longitudinal ribs 13, the ribs 13a, 13b adjacent the opening 12 being reduced in size.
