Abstract
798,300. Friction brakes. HOLZER, C., and BUSHE, M. VON, [trading as KIESERLING & ALBRECHT, T.]. Aug. 30, 1955 [Dec. 30, 1954; April 9, 1955], No. 24866/55. Class 103 (1). [Also in Group XXIV] A spring-loaded brake is combined with a clutch actuated by a pressure fluid annular diaphragm and having friction material inserts. The driving shaft 1 of a press is journalled in a stationary member 2 and has journalled thereon a driving pulley 19. Rigid with the shaft 1 is a diaphragm carrier 10 having an annular diaphragm 11 movable under fluid pressure from duct 12 to urge an intermediate member 5, in driving connection with the carrier 10, into contact with friction inserts 21 in the pulley 19. The inserts 21 are axially free in pulley 19 to further engage a clutch member 15 adjustably secured to an end plate 13 rigid with the shaft 1. An exchangeable element 22 is interposed between the inserts 21 to permit adjustment for wear. Threaded pins 6 rigid with the carrier 10 are threaded into adjusting nuts 7 in a brake disc 4 carrying a friction ring 3 engageable with the stationary member 2. The pins 6 are loaded by springs 9 to engage the brake 4, 3, 2 when the intermediate member 5 is not moved by the diaphragm 11. An electrically driven pump supplies oil to a ring main comprising a non- return valve, a pressure relief valve, an electrically operated control valve and an electropressure controller connected with the pump motor. A lead from the ring main operates the clutch when two switches on the press are closed, through the electrically operated control valve. This valve may be opened to release fluid pressure to the clutch and allow spring engagement of the brake by release of either of the two press switches or, for single-stroke operation by a switch automatically opened by the press. In a modification the stationary part 2 carries friction inserts similar to 21 which are engaged between a disc rigid with the shaft 1 and the brake disc 4.
