Abstract

798,274. Dishwashing machines. TOLEDO SCALE CO. Oct. 31, 1956, No. 33183/56. Class 138(1). A dishwashing machine with pivoted hoods extending over the washing and rinsing spaces is provided with safety means whereby if the hoods are opened during operation the machine stops working. Alternatively, or in addition, a lock is operated when the machine is started so that the hoods cannot be opened during operation. The machine has hoods 3 pivoted on brackets 18 and a switch handle 10 is provided to start the cycle. A conventional sequence timer controls the rinsing and washing cycles and the cycle is stopped if the hoods are opened. To this end each hood carries a cam, the cams 27, 28 being arranged side by side at one pivot point, and each having a flat portion on the circumference. Both flats are adjacent when the hoods are closed, but if one or both hoods are raised, the appropriate cam opens a safety switch 15 in series with the timer " hold on" contacts and breaks the operating circuit. In a modification, Figs. 7 and 8, the cams are arranged on concentric sleeves 21a, 22a working in a stationary bush, and each sleeve and the bush have radial holes which are in alignment when both hoods are closed. A solenoid 32 is arranged to move a pin 33 into these holes when the machine is operated and thus the hoods are locked in a closed position. Fixed rinsing sprays 8 are arranged at the top and bottom of the washing space, and rotatable rinsing sprays 9 are provided to feed fresh hot water to rinse and sterilize the dishes.
