Abstract

279,717. British-American Laundry Machinery Co., Ltd., (American Laundry Machinery Co.). April 26, 1927. Washing-machines u:ith rotary receptacles.-In a. washing machine in which a perforated receptacle 31 is rotated within a stationary cylindrical casing 2, there is provided in one of the lower segments of the casing a circumferentially sliding door 7 through which the contents of the receptacle are discharged. A rubber or other packing member 6, Fig. 6, is secured around the sides and bottom of the opening in the casing and the sides of the door are pressed into close engagement with the side packing members by metal straps anchored at their upper ends and having eyes at the lower ends engaged by arms 12 on a shaft 11 which can be rocked by the linkage shown in Fig. 4 from a shaft 16 under the control of the operator. The shaft 16 also carries sleeve-like cams 16a for forcing the bottom of the door into engagement with the packing member at the bottom of the casing opening. A separate door is provided in the upper portion of the casing for loading the rotary receptacle which may be compartmented. The spring pressed locking bolt 33a Fig. 9 for the door of the rotary receptacle is retracted by a rack and pinion arrangement which is housed in a casing 34.
