A sack holder comprises plungers 5 secured to levers 3 mounted on pivots 4 on a plate 1 to which are secured apertured lugs 12. The levers 3 are connected by links 7 to a lever 6 pivotally mounted on the plate and actuated by a handle 8. When the lever 6 is turned to bring the links 7 into a locking position, in which they lie substantially along a straight line through the fulcrum of the lever 6, the levers 3 are swung to bring the plungers 5 into the apertures in the lugs 12 to grip an intervening sack. When the lever 6 is turned in the opposite direction to move the links out of alignment and towards each other, the levers 3 are swung to withdraw the plungers from the apertures and release the sack. The sack holder may be constructed so that, for a given swing of the lever 6, one lever 3 is swung through the same angle as the other lever 3, but in an opposite direction. The handle may be shaped so that, when the links are in the locking position, its weight tends to keep them in that position. Alternatively, the handle may be urged by a spring towards a locking position. A stop 11 may be provided on the plate to prevent the adjacent lever 3 and link 7 from moving into alignment. The sack holder may be secured to the front of a delivery shoot, as by a strap, Figs. 4 and 6 (not shown), and the shoot or strap may carry, at the rear, sacksupporting spikes or projections. Two sack holders may be mounted side-by-side near two outlets from a hopper, Fig. 5 (not shown), and the outlets may be provided with sliding closure plates connected by a lever so that one outlet is closed when the other is opened.
