Abstract

818,453. Overhead conveyers. FISHER & LUDLOW Ltd. Jan. 7, 1957 [Jan. 10, 1956], No. 767/56. Class 104(2). In a conveyer system a wheeled floor trolley 17 is propelled by a driven overhead endless chain 11 supporting a flexible connecting chain 13 ending in a ball 16 which is engaged by two jaws 24, 25 on the trolley and which are locked by a bolt 37 and released by an obstruction striking a plate 43 on the trolley the jaws opening under the pull of the chain 13 and re-engaging the ball 16 when the bolt is restored to locking position. One jaw 24 is integral with a bracket 31 mounted rigidly at the top of a mast 22 on the trolley and the other jaw 25 is pivoted to the jaw 24 by a bolt 32. The jaw 25 is urged closed by a spring 33 connecting the bolt with a lug 34 on the jaw. A belt 37 passes through the jaws to lock them, the bolt extending from a rod 38 within the trolley mast 22. The bolt is released by depressing a striking plate 43 pivoted on a spindle 41 on the trolley carrying a cam 40 which is released from engaging with a nose 39 extending from the rod through a slot. in the mast. The bolt descends under the action of a spring 49 and the jaws are opened by the pull of the chain 13 and the ball disengages from the jaws. The jaws move to operative position under the action of the spring 33. The bolt is raised to lock the jaws by a handle 46 on the rod projecting through the slot and the ball 16 is passed through an opening 30 to the rear of the jaws to re-engage therewith.
