708,401. Lifting dogs; endless conveyers. ANGUERA, P. DE. June 4, 1952, No. 14122/52. Classes 78 (1) and 78 (4) Automatically detachable lifting dogs comprise two pivoted arms 11 and 12 bent to have off-set parts 13, 14 carrying a load engaging spur 23, 29 the arms being pivoted on a pin 16 connected to a draft line 22 and a spring 23 connected between the arms. The draft line is connected to a carriage 32 travelling on an overhead runway 33 and articles are transferred from an inclined member 36 to a conveyer 35 moving faster than the carriage. At the end of the runway a stop 38 arrests the carriage and causes the article to be carried forward on the conveyer automatically releasing the clamp. The arms initially pivot about the spurs until the parts 39 contact the article and cause the spurs to move in an arc upwardly until they disengage.
