Abstract

796,520. Portmanteaux. HARRIS (BIRMINGHAM), Ltd., T. Nov. 6, 1956 [Feb. 9, 1956], No. 4016/56. Class 133. [Also in Group XXXII] A shopping or light bag is attached to a wheeled support 11 by means of an inverted pocket 28 or overhanging part on a wall of the bag and engaging over a part of the support. The rectangular bag 1 of flexible material has front and rear walls 2, 3 connected by side walls 4, and a mouth 5 closeable by a separate detachable cover 6. An interior rectangular frame reinforces the front 2 and side walls 4 are stiffened by boards 8. The wheeled support 11 comprises a rectangular panel of suitable rigid material 14 the bottom corners of which carry metal plates 15 which support an axle 18 for wheels 17. At the bottom panel 14 carries a bracket 19 for the end of the stick handle 12. A bracket also carries a ground engaging rod 20 which will maintain the wheeled bag substantially upright. The handle 12 is detachably secured to panel 14 by a clamping screw 22, clamping member 26 and a U-shaped bracket 24 secured to the rear face of panel 14. An inverted pocket 28 extends full width of the rear wall 3 of the bag and is provided by a flexible strip 29 stitched at the top 30 to the said rear walls and having forwardly turned terminal portions stitched to the side walls 4 of the bag. The detachable top cover 6 of flexible material is internally stiffened by front and side flanges 32, 33, the rear attachment flange 34 when clamped in position forms a hinge.
