Abstract

796,186. Stranding wire ropes. PIRELLIGENERAL CABLE WORKS, Ltd. May 9, 1956 [Oct. 27, 1955], No. 30727/55. Class 109 [Also in Group XXII] Apparatus for stranding wire conductors includes a pair of rollers for each wire to be stranded between which the wire passes and by which it is flattened. Pairs of rollers 9, Fig. 2, formed by the outer races of ball bearings 9 are mounted in apertures 18 in the lay plate 5 by means of stub spindles 10, 14, Fig. 4. Set screws 15 bearing on U- shaped supports 13 permit adjustment of the distance between the rollers 8. The strands 4 after passing through the rollers are fed through apertures 20 in a plate 19 attached to to the lay-plate 5. The rollers 8 may be cylindrical or the outer roller 21 may have a concave surface and the inner roller 22 a convex surface and flanges 23.
