Abstract

958,290. Fairleads. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS CONSTRUCTION CO. Ltd. Oct. 12, 1962 [Oct. 13, 1961], No. 36819/61. Heading B8B. A guide roller for use in cable laying comprises a cylindrical barrel 15 flanked by two flanged cheeks 16 whose external diameter progressively increases towards the ends of the roller. All three parts are independently rotatable on a common axle 18 supported by pedestals 19 upstanding from a base 20. The cheeks may provide seats 28 for the inner surface of the hollow barrel parts but in an alternative arrangement (Fig. 1, not shown), this provision is omitted. The barrel may itself comprise a plurality of separate independently rotatable cylindrical members. A plurality of the rollers may be mounted on a curved frame 33, Fig. 4, for use in guiding a cable round a bend. The barrel and/or flanges of the rollers are preferably of a synthetic plastic such as nylon.
