Abstract

933,167. Machines for making stranded cables. GEOFFROY-DELORES S.A. July 10, 1961 [July 26, 1960], No. 24905/61. Class 109. A cable stranding machine includes a turntable 7 that is rotatable about a pivot 9 such that in one setting of the turntable, Fig. 1, a plate 17 carried by the turntable 7 aligns a series of strand distributing grids 19a, 19b, 19c and associated driven dies 21a, 21b, 21c with an entry die 3 for a cable drawing device, not shown. With this setting of the turntable 7 multilayer cables can be built up by the machine. When the turntable 7 is rotated through 180 degrees, Fig. 3, the plate 17 presents an entry guide-grid 47, a grooved pulley 49, a grooved drawing capstan 51, and a further grooved pulley 53 for use in conjunction with the entry die 3. The apparatus is now suitable for manufacturing single-layer cables and for this purpose a strand distributing grid 55 and die 57, on the machine frame 1, are swung up and locked in alignment with the die 3. Spring tensioned belts 73 are used to keep the cable strands in the grooves of the capstan 51. The capstan 51 may be braked instead of being driven.
