719,030. Making cables. FELTEN & GUILLEAUME CARLSWERK AKT.-GES. Jan. 22, 1953, [June 7, 1952.] No. 1903/53. Class 36. A stranded conductor i is filled with a viscous impregnating compound by running it around a wheel 5 which is itself moved around the conductor so that the part of the conductor in front of the wheel is untwisted to permit the entry of the insulating compound, while the part of the conductor behind the wheel is retwisted to the same extent. The wheel 5 is mounted on a toothed wheel 7 which is turned around the conductor 1, causing it to be untwisted where it passes through. a press 1 which forces impregnating compound into the interstices of the strands. This filling may be carried out in vacuo. The conductor may then be guided through a nipple 12, which may be heated, to remove excess compound, and through a press 13 which provides an insulating jacket, before passing around capstan 4 to take-up drum 3.
