[Also in Groups XXXVI and XXXVIII] In an inductor generator for producing electrical impulses on the passages of a railway vehicle, a stator device comprises a plurality of magnet-and-coil units, each providing an interrupted magnetic circuit including a permanent magnet 13, a core assembly 17, and a coil 22 mounted around the coil assembly, conductors connecting the coils of the units in series, the magnet and coil units being arranged in spaced notation along a line parallel to the railway track whereby an armature 34 carried by the vehicle so as to pass in close proximity to the magnets when the vehicle passes the units provides as it passes each unit, an alternative flux path for the magnetic flux thus reducing the flux passing through the coil assembly. The magnets 13 are bar magnets and each has soft iron polepieces 14, 15 clamped to its ends and each is contained in a cavity 12 formed in the upper surface of a non-magnetic wall 11 of a casing 10. Below the cavity 12 is a cavity 16 and the core assembly 17 is mounted in this, the wall 11 providing the interruptions in the magnetic circuit. The core assembly 17 comprises two end elements 18, 19 and a central element 21 about which is wound the coil 22. Rubbing strips 23 of non-magnetic material extend longitudinally over the tops of the magnets and additional rubbing strips are secured to the wall 11 at the sides of the cavities 12. The casing 10 is bolted to a base plate which is supported on one or more insulators. The coils may be arranged in circuit with a receiver as described in Specification 748,807 [Group XXXVIII].
