Abstract
795,469. Transformers. CENTRE D'ETUDE ET DE DEVELOPPEMENTS DE L'ELECTRONIQUE CEDEL. Jan. 17, 1955 [Jan. 15, 1954], No. 1431/55. Class 38 (2). [Also in Group XL (a)] A winding such as a winding for an electric transformer or for the deflection coils of a cathode-ray tube comprises a flexible ribbon of insulating material, on each face 5, 6 of which are printed a series of coil elements, the series on the face 5 being displaced. along the ribbon relatively to the series on the face 6, the coil elements on the face 5 being connected to the coil elements on the face 6 by way of perforations in the ribbon so that the coil elements on the two faces are all series connected; each perforation in the ribbon being in register with an end of a coil element on one face and an end of a coil element on the other face, the ribbon being coiled to form a spiral such that the turns thereof are insulated from one another, thereby to form the winding. The winding is made by a method which includes the steps of perforating a flexible ribbon of insulating material at predetermined intervals, metallizing the edges of the perforations and both sides of the ribbon by the evaporation in vacuo or in a neutral atmosphere of a conducting material, depositing a photo-sensitive film on the conducting material on the two sides of the ribbon, photographing an impression of the coil elements and the edges of the perforations on to the film; removing the unimpressed parts of the conducting material by an engraving process; and increasing the thickness of the conductor of the coil elements by electro deposition processes. When coiling the ribbon to form a spiral insulating material is placed between the turns. In order to take account of the increasing diameter of the spiral as the ribbon is coiled up and to ensure that the superimposed coil elements have the same axis, the succeeding coil elements may be made larger in size or alternatively the succeeding perforations through the strip are made larger.
