In a driver's brake control device for fluid pressure braking systems of the kind adapted to effect both electric and pneumatic control, the control being effected by a single control handle movement of which from its release position first effects electric control and, on further movement, places the electric control in its lap or holding position and then effects pneumatic control includes a first and second cylindrical valve assembly each of which controls communication between at least two conduits. The valve assemblies are controlled by one or more radial cams 2 mounted upon a spindle 1 coupled to the control handle, the valve assemblies being arranged with their axes in substantially the same plane, such plane being normal to the axis of the spindle 1. Each valve stem 6 is arranged to slide axially within its bushing 5 so as to control groups of ports 14 and 15 and also the opening of poppet valves 7. The first chamber 16 of the left-hand valve assembly poppet valve is in communication with the' .main reservoir and opens to connect the latter to the second chamber 17, which is in communication with the brake pipe. The ports 14 and 15 of the left-hand valve assembly thus act to connect the brake pipe to the equalizing reservoir. The first chamber 16 of the righthand valve assembly is connected to the brake pipe and the space above the valve to atmosphere. The ports 14 and 15 operate to put the equalizing reservoir in communication with the atmosphere before the poppet valve 7 is opened. This construction provides a more compact arrangement than that in which the axes of the valve spindle and poppet valves are in substantially parallel disposition.
