Abstract
794,517. Clamps. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES, Ltd. June 27, 1956 [June 27, 1955], No. 18507/55. Class 44 [Also in Group XXXVI] A clip for clamping together elongated members 4, 5 comprises a substantially U- or V-shaped body 1 and a removable cam piece 3, the body 1 having a part for the reception of the elongated members which lie parallel to each other, and two arms which are flat and substantially parallel to each other or diverge slightly from each other and which are provided with apertures which receive the cam piece and allow it to be rotated in the body from an idle position to a clamping position, and the cam piece 3 comprising a central part 8 having a surface adapted to bear upon one or more of the elongated members and end: parts 6, 7 projecting through the two arms, each end part having surfaces adapted to bear upon the wall of the aperture and formed with a finger adapted to bear upon the other surface of the arm the surface of the central part or the surfaces of the end parts being so shaped as to give the cam piece a snap action movement as it is rotated from an idle position into a clamping position. As shown, the elongated members 4, 5 are respectively a stranded feeder cable and a dropper wire. A clamping plate 2 is interposed between the cam piece 3 and the cable 4 and is provided with lugs 9 which engage slots forming part of the apertures in the arms. The clip is opened by rotating the cam piece 3 anticlockwise through approximately 90 degrees from the position shown. In a modification Fig. 3 (not shown), the back of the cam piece is flat and the clamping face is semi-circular, the apertures in the arms being shaped correspondingly. In another arrangement, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), in which the body of the clip is shaped to accommodate two cables side-by-side, the cam piece is formed with a knuckle to provide a fulcrum about which the clamping plate can rock to allow for variations in cable sizes. In all arrangements the clip parts are made of cadmium copper.
