Abstract

783,796. Clips. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES, Ltd. Feb. 14, 1956 [Feb. 14, 1955], No. 4371/55. Class 44 [Also in Group XXXVI] A clip for supporting a conductor wire (not shown) from an overhead cable 1 comprises a pair of clamping plates 3, 4 and a locking bar 5, the clamping plates 3, 4 being formed at one end with a pair of jaws 10, 11 for grippinig the wire or the cable 1, the outer faces of the clamping plates having inclined surfaces converging from the jaws to a point from which they continue to converge or run approximately parallel for a short distance, then sharply approach one another to form the risers 6, 7 of a pair of steps 8, 9 and finally run approximately parallel, the locking bar passing through apertures 14 located at least partly in the steps 8, 9 and having a laterally projecting lug 15, 16 at each end of the bar lying outside the clamping plates, and the locking bar 5 being rotatable from a locking position (Figs. 1, 2) in which the lugs are directed towards the jaws and engage the inclined surfaces so as to press the jaws firmly into contact with the wire or cable, into a second position in which the lugs are clear of or approximately at right angles to the slope of the inclined surfaces and lie over the steps thus partly releasing the jaws, and from the second position into a full release position in which the lugs are clear of the steps. The lower extremities of the plates 3, 4 are bifurcated, one prong of each strip (e.g. 17 in Fig. 2) being turned inwardly to bear against the straight prong of the other strip. Circular holes 12, 13 in the two clamping plates serve for the passage of a link, hook or bolt for connecting the clip to the conductor wire (not shown). In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) the plates converge steadily from the jaws (10. 11) to the risers or joggled portions (6, 7), and the prongs at the lower extremities of the plates are joggled instead of being turned in. Fig. 4 (not shown) illustrates a further modified form of clip having jaws shaped to fit in side grooves in the suspended conductor wire.
