Abstract
794,186. Electrically heated fabrics. STEPHENSON, M., PEACE, T. E., and FRENCH & SONS, Ltd., T. June 3, 1955 [June 4, 1954], No. 16531/54. Class 39(3) A flexible electric heating element consists of a resistance wire weft E laid between two plies of tape, the middle portion of the ply being interconnected by warp threads B which pass from one ply to the other at intervals, thereby forming transverse partitions to insulate successive runs of the wire. The tape is woven from glass yarn. The margins beyond the wire are afterwards sewn together. The amount of wire per foot of tape may be reduced by inserting it after every two partitions instead of after every one. The tape may be used for clothing, blankets, radiator muffs, pipe wrappings, gun barrel heating, aircraft de-icing, soil heating, and in laboratories.
