Abstract

1,115,023. Electric resistance heating. M. H. GODDEN Ltd. 31 Aug., 1965 [5 Sept., 1964] No. 36502/64. Heading H5H. An electric resistance heating mat 1, for aircraft de-icing systems comprises a plurality of continuously energized longitudinally and laterally extending " breaker " strips 4, 3 and areas 5, discontinuously energized, the strips and areas comprising electrical resistance wires woven into a textile fabric sheet as weft threads to form ribbon-like structures of concertina form. The mat comprises woven sections 2 each having seven heating elements of PTFE coated resistance wire woven into glass fibre fabric which is shaped and coated with a rubber solution to form semi-stiff sections. These are then bonded on to an aircraft surface 8 between layers 9, 10 of neoprene.
