Abstract

Dyeings of 1 : 1-chromium complex azo or azomethine dyestuffs on animal or vegetable protein fibres or on polyamide or polyurethane fibres have their fastness improved by effecting the dyeing in the presence of, or by aftertreating with, a colourless organic compound which is itself capable of forming complex chromium compounds. Specified organic compounds are 2 - hydroxy - benzoic acid, 2 - hydroxy - benzoic acid - 5 - sulphonic acid phenylamide, 1 : 2 - dihydroxybenzene, ortho - or peri - dihydroxy naphthalenes, ortho - hydroxy naphthoic acids, phthalic acid and its derivatives, ortho-nitrosonaphthols, 8-hydroxyquinoline, pyridine-2-sulphonic or carboxylic acid, oxalic, tartaric, citric, malic, nitrilotriacetic or ethylene diaminotetraacetic acids, polyglycols and alkanolamines. Dyeing is preferably effected in an acid bath. Specifications 692,073 and 745,479 are referred to.
