Abstract
793,375. Extruding. SOUTHERN UNITED TELEPHONE CABLES, Ltd. June 1, 1956 [June 3, 1955], No. 16018/55. Class 83 (4). In an extrusion press of the type in which the container is fed with molten metal from a sealing and feeding vessel mounted at the inlet end of the container and surrounding the ram, the extrusion ram 6 is encased in a renewable cylindrical metal stocking 8 whose closed end 9 forms the actual working face of the ram. The end wall 9 is preferably thicker than the side wall of the stocking and is secured to the ram by a screwed stem 10. A ring 11 of high tensile steel may be shrunk on to the end wall to reduce tensile stresses set up therein during service. In another embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), the ring 11 is omitted and the stocking is secured to the ram by screws. The stocking may alternatively be secured to the cross-head 7.
