793,285. Facilitating reverse gear-shift. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. April 5, 1956 [May 24, 1955], No. 10453/56. Class 80 (2). To facilitate engagement of a forward-neutralreverse dog clutch 6 at standstill on a torqueconverter-driven vehicle, idle drag of the converter is eliminated by a permanently-engaged friction disc coupling 12 directly connecting the turbine shaft 1 to the vehicle drive-shaft 2. The reverse gear comprises an output ring gear 3, housing the coupling 12, an input sun on the shaft 1, and planets 4 on a carrier 5 to which is splined the dog clutch 6. The latter engages a fixed dog 8 for reverse and the ring 3 for solid forward drive. The adverse torque of the coupling 12 in reverse is insignificant.
