Abstract

793,245. Knitting-machines. TOONE (NOTTINGHAM), Ltd., B. Aug. 15, 1955 [Sept. 3, 1954; Jan. 14, 1955], Nos. 25584/54 and 1203/55. Class 74 (2). Needle selection for tucking or other patterning effects is achieved by the provision of a disc 1 having recesses 3, which may have a re-entrant configuration, the disc being positioned adjacent the needle cylinder of a circular machine and rotatable about an axis at right angles to the needle cylinder. The periphery of the disc which is stepped, as at 4, engages the needle butts to raise the respective needles whereas the recesses 3 permit the butts to remain in a low position. The disc is positioned before a feeding station and is raised and lowered for effecting patterning through mechanism controlled by a card drum. The clearing cam 7a is also movable to a raised position by mechanism operated from the cam drum in which it serves to clear the needles and normally when the cam 7a is in this position the disc is lowered and inoperative. When the disc is raised the clearing cam is lowered to tucking height to engage those needles which have not been raised by the disc 1.
