Abstract

793,011. Multiple-ply corrugated paper-board; thermoset synthetic resin laminates. ELLIOTT, A. G. July 23, 1954 [June 10, 1953], No. 15993/53. Classes 96 and 140. Corrugated roofing board is made by strengthening plies of paper by a water-soluble synthetic resin, e.g. a phenol-, or a urea-formaldehyde compound, and e.g. coating one or both sides of some or all plies with a high polymer, non-water-soluble resin, e.g. urea-formaldehyde, superimposing the plies so that there is coating resin between them, bonding, and optionally partially curing, with the aid of flat squeeze rolls, and then passing the laminate between heated, corrugated press rolls to corrugate it and to cure the bonding resin so that the corrugations are permanent. These rolls may be at 200‹ C. The outer plies may contain 15 to 25 per cent, and the inner 10 to 15 per cent, of resin. After cutting to length, the corrugated board may be immersed in drying oil or in a polyester resin solution. Curing of the watersoluble resin may be accelerated by spraying with aluminium sulphate or formic acid &c. According to the Provisional Specification, silicone compounds may also be used.
