Abstract
792,686. Microscopes. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Dec. 15, 1955 [Dec. 15, 1954], No. 36025/55. Class 97(1) A stereoscopic microscope is provided with a pair of stereoscopic graticules by which an apparent depth scale is viewed in superposition and the object under examination whereby the depth of any indentations in the latter may be measured. As shown the microscope comprises a pair of tubes 13 each having an objective 16, a reversing prism 15 and an eyepiece 14. The left hand eyepiece carries a graticule 17 having two similar sets of equally spaced graduations 19, 20, Fig. 3. The right-hand eyepiece carries a graticule 18 having an upper set of equally spaced graduations 21, Fig. 4, spaced apart the same distance as the graduations 19 and 20, and a lower set 22 of differently spaced graduations. When viewed in the microscope the scales 19 and 21 are optically passed to . form a scale image in the plane of the object while the scales 20, 22 form an image of a scale sloping towards or away from the observer. By observing the appropriate graduations in the latter scale the depth of the object may be determined.
