Abstract

623,867. Magnifying apparatus. PYSER, C. S., and CHANDLER, E. May 21, 1947, No. 13715. [Class 97 (i)] A magnifier, particularly for linen testing, comprises a base 10 having an aperture containing a suitable graticule 38 and a member 13 carrying a lens 36 and connected thereto by a pair of lazy-tongs 16 so as to fold flat against the member 10 and to be opened therefrom to a distance at which a magnified virtual image of the graticule, and of the object on which the magnifier is placed, is formed by the lens. One arm of each lazy-tongs is connected to each of the members by a pin and slot 29, 28 and 31, 30 so as to permit folding. The graticule 38 is so mounted as to be recessed from the base of the member 10 to avoid scratching thereof and consists of a glass plate bearing suitable measuring scales.
