Abstract

600,954. Magnifying-glasses. LEE, W. D. Aug. 13, 1945, No. 20781. [Class 97 (i)] The lens 2 is in a rectangular mount 3 to which are pivoted covers 7, 11 which can be used as supports to hold the lens in viewing position and can be folded to enclose the lens when not in use. The cover 7, Fig. 6, has flanges 8 carrying pins 6 sliding in slots 5 in the mount and the cover 11 is pivoted at 10 to the mount and has a flap 13 pivoted thereto. Fig. 5 shows the flaps supporting the lens upon an object visible through the aperture 16. By folding the flap 13 upwards from this position, arcuate portion 9, 12 on.the cover 7 and flap 13 may be used to hold the lens in the eye or rest it upon the object ; alternatively the covers may be used as a handle. In folding the flap 13 is pivoted to nest with cover 11 which is rotated to cover one side of the lens and the pins 6 slide in the groove 5 to allow the cover 7 to enclose the other side.
